The 6th session of the Conference of Tourism Ministers of the member countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) held in Damascus has adopted a new strategy for development and cooperation in the field of tourism, so-called "Damas declaration" . Upon his return from the Syrian capital where he had represented Mauritania in the work of this meeting, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Ould Aida, said Sunday that the new strategy aims to define the forms of implementation of programmes for tourism development, strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Islamic countries through the promotion of the tourism industry in the member countries of OIC and the encouragement and development of national tourism and bilateral levels.
It is noteworthy that the Secretary-General attended, alongside the work of this conference, the monitoring committee meeting of the sub-regional project on sustainable tourism development network "sights and nature reserves in West Africa held June 30, 2008.
